Polyurethane Finishes
In polyurethane paint, however, the film is formed when isocyanate is cross linked polyurethane paint, becomes a plastic like substance. In two component paint, a moisture curing chemical is added. Polyurethane paint has excellent performance characteristics: adhesion, hardness, gloss, flexibility, and resistance to abrasion, impact, weathering, acids and solvents. These properties make them ideal for use in DOT applications , and are becoming more common. Polyurethane paint can be worked with safely when proper procedures are followed. There are two misconceptions about poly-urethane paint. One is that it contains methyl isocyanate, a volatile chemical. This is not true. The second is that polyurethane paint contains cyanide. This is also not true, but like all nitrogen rich compounds, polyurethane paint can release hydrogen cyanide gas when burned. Therefore, it is important to take special precautions when spraying polyurethane paints and also when cutting, heating or welding materials coated with polyurethane paint.
